A very large slice can look striking in a photograph yet be awkward at a shared table. At home, think about picking it up and eating it. Try a simple serving test with your chosen ham without treating a shape or measurement as a quality certificate.
Aim for portions that can be picked up separately and eaten comfortably. Size, thickness and arrangement help serving; they do not replace the designation and product details.
Size: consider the bite rather than filling a plate
Set out a few separate slices and try lifting one without bringing others with it. If it needs folding repeatedly or pulls another portion, divide large slices with a clean utensil before serving. Identical measurements are unnecessary: the domestic aim is a comfortable bite for the people sharing the table.
Thickness: compare using the same ham
If two presentations of the same product are available, taste small portions separately and note which feels more pleasant to chew. Do not call a slice better merely because it is translucent or infer breed or feeding from thickness. Read the particular page’s description of machine slicing, knife slicing or knife-effect cutting.

Arrange slices without pressing them together, leaving an edge easy to pick up. Refill in small batches following the pack’s serving and storage directions. If slices stick together, follow the product instructions and separate carefully; do not apply one time out of refrigeration to every pack. Dress a salad base first, then finish with ham.

What to request on your next purchase
Describe the use: shared appetiser, sandwich or dish garnish. Then check format, net weight and slicing description. Compare current ham and shoulder packs or another format in plated Ibérico ham. For a leg to slice yourself, explore Spanish ham. Do not transfer a photograph’s features to a new product.
