Good slicing does not mean producing a huge slice. Begin with a stable station, open only the area you will eat and aim for small portions from an even surface. Working around bones needs practice.
Secure, clean one area, level and slice small portions without force. Stop if the ham moves or bone blocks the blade; readjust or ask for help.
1. Prepare tools and cutting side
Use a compatible stand, rigid trimming knife, long ham-slicing knife and serving tongs. Check handles, edges and table; secure the ham according to the stand. Identify maza and babilla and choose the side before trimming. Keep the free hand outside the blade's path.
2. Open only a working area
With the rigid tool, remove rind and the outer layer not intended for serving from the area you will eat. Do not lever with a flexible knife or strip the whole leg for one meal. Open progressively to a clean surface; ask for a demonstration if you cannot control this preparation.

Use short gentle passes of the slicing knife over an even plane, without forcing through hard parts. Aim for thin manageable slices with lean and the area's own fat. Avoid digging a bowl in the centre: advance evenly and accept shorter first slices.

4. Bones, turning and finishing
Do not saw bone with the slicing knife. Tracing its contour needs suitable tools and technique; stop and ask for help if unfamiliar. To change sides, put the knife aside, release, turn, secure and check again. Serve with clean tongs and protect the cut according to the label and storage guide; clean and store tools afterward.
