Baked spring rolls with vegetables and cured ham

  • 8 oven-suitable wheat spring roll wrappers
  • 300 g finely shredded white cabbage
  • 100 g grated carrot
  • 80 g cured ham in small strips
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon flour mixed with 1 teaspoon water to seal
  • Pepper to taste

Step-by-step method

  1. Heat the oven to 200 °C or the wrapper pack temperature. Wash vegetables and sauté cabbage and carrot with one tablespoon oil for 8–10 minutes until tender with no visible liquid. Spread out and cool slightly for 5 minutes.
  2. Add ham and divide filling into eight. Place one portion on each wrapper, fold in the sides and roll without overtightening. Seal the edge with flour mixed with water.
  3. Place seam-side down on a lined tray. Brush with remaining oil and bake about 18–20 minutes, turning halfway, until golden; follow wrapper instructions if different.
  4. Serve two per person once comfortable to eat. Here the ham heats inside the filling and has a different texture from cold-served ham.

Adapt the recipe to your kitchen

Do not fill with hot or watery vegetables. Use less filling if wrappers tear; wrapper sizes are not assumed to be universal.

Contains wheat; check wrappers and ham for egg or other allergens. Timing includes about 5 minutes of cooling and varies with the wrappers.
