Cured ham and roasted pepper rolls: assemble without soggy bread

The key to this proposal is draining the peppers and layering the filling without compressing the ham. Small rolls make four appetizer portions. This is an assembly recipe using roasted peppers ready to eat, not a roasting method.

At a glance

4 small rolls · 80 g ham · about 10 minutes. Drain the peppers and assemble just before serving.

Ingredients and timing for 4 servings

Preparation and assembly: about 10 min; no cooking with ready-to-eat roasted peppers.

  • 4 small bread rolls of about 60 g each
  • 80 g sliced cured ham
  • 120 g ready-to-eat roasted red peppers, drained weight
  • 40 g rocket
  • 20 ml olive oil

Step-by-step method

  1. Check the rocket instructions. If not washed and ready to eat, wash under running water and dry carefully. Use clean hands, board and knife.
  2. Drain the roasted peppers and cut into manageable strips. Gently remove surface liquid with clean kitchen paper if necessary. Do not pour preserving liquid over the bread.
  3. Split all four rolls horizontally and divide the oil over the inside surfaces. Put a little rocket on each base.
  4. Divide the 80 g ham between four rolls in loose folds rather than a compact ball. Add drained pepper strips and the remaining rocket.
  5. Close without crushing, check that the filling stays inside and serve freshly assembled. Store unused ingredients according to their packets rather than leaving them waiting outside the fridge.

Adapt the recipe to your kitchen

The pepper quantity is drained weight. A jar weighing 120 g in total does not necessarily contain 120 g drained peppers. If using different-sized rolls, review the distribution rather than automatically adding ham.

Bread may contain wheat and other allergens; check the peppers, rocket and ham too. This proposal includes no cheese or mayonnaise. Keep ingredients prepared in advance separately as each label directs and assemble at serving.

Choose your ham and plan your purchase

You need 80 g of ham for the four suggested portions. Compare 80 g sliced ham packs and check that the listing is for ham if following these ingredients. The carousel may also include shoulder.

Cebo Iberian ham and 100% Iberian bellota ham are different categories; the recipe does not require the most expensive one. Check the specific product's ingredients and storage instructions. For other formats, explore ham to buy.
