Seeing Gran Reserva and Duroc together does not mean they measure the same thing. One relates to the processing period defined by Spain's meat-products standard; the other names a pig breed. Reading them separately helps you ask about the specific product.
Gran Reserva: a term linked to a minimum processing period. Duroc: a pig breed. Then check the designation, format and product details; these words alone do not tell the whole story.
Gran Reserva relates to processing time
Article 21 of Spanish Royal Decree 474/2014 includes Gran Reserva among the optional terms for cured hams and shoulders: it sets a minimum processing period of 15 months for ham and 9 months for shoulder. The standard defines that period; do not confuse it with time spent storing a ham at home.
It is a minimum, not an exact age you can assign to any product. The same article also excludes these terms from hams and shoulders covered by the Iberian standard. Do not apply this classification to Iberian products as though it were the same scale.
Duroc is a breed name
Spain's Agriculture Ministry lists Duroc as a pig breed in its official catalogue. Duroc gives breed information, not a number of processing months. Nor does the word alone fully explain a crossbreeding percentage.
Permitted crosses for Iberian products have their own rules. Read the designation and details of each product to understand the offer. Our Gran Reserva Duroc reference is presented in the catalogue as Duroc; it does not advertise an Iberian breed percentage.

Opening Gran Reserva Duroc and Jamón Ibérico de Cebo means looking at products in different categories. Before focusing only on price, check whether you are choosing a whole piece, a sliced preparation of a piece or another pack, and what each option includes.
Do not infer an exact processing time or unstated net weight from a photo. Do not assume more flavour, less salt or a particular texture from these two words alone. Those questions need product-specific information and your preferences.

The selection follows the Jamones Paco Heredia catalogue. Editorial photographs illustrate formats; check the collection for current products and their details.
Three useful questions before deciding
Ask for the processing period declared for that product, its full designation and how you will receive it. For a purchase comparison of the categories, see our Duroc or Iberian ham guide.
Open the Gran Reserva Duroc ham page or explore ham to buy. To focus on serving format, view whole pieces and sliced products.
