How to compare ham prices: calculate the cost per 100 g

A small price on screen does not tell you how much ham you are buying. To compare two packs, place net quantity and designation beside the price. Here you can calculate the equivalent per 100 g for three real ham products, all sold in 80 g packs.

At a glance

Start with the same format and weight. For an 80 g pack, the equivalent per 100 g is its price × 1.25. This compares quantities; assess the category separately.

First establish what the price covers

Check whether it is for one pack, a whole leg or a preparation option. A bone-in leg and sliced ham do not represent the same ready-to-serve quantity. Open the options before comparing the price of one variant with another presentation.

This calculator uses machine-sliced ham in 80 g packs. The purchase unit is therefore the same; category and breed percentage still differ and should be read on each product page.

Put both amounts into the same unit

The calculation is price ÷ net grams × 100. For these packs, dividing by 80 and multiplying by 100 is the same as multiplying by 1.25. This does not mean a 100 g pack is available to buy: it is a comparison unit.

Select two products and look at both pack price and equivalent price. Amounts are checked when the tool loads; availability is shown too, so a comparison is not confused with a confirmed purchase.

Checking current prices…

Compare the designation and category too. This calculation excludes delivery and does not make different products equivalent.

The figure does not replace the designation

Cebo, cebo de campo and bellota describe different categories. Comparing cebo 50% Iberian with bellota 100% Iberian changes more than the price. The calculation alone does not establish which one you will prefer.

Write down your priorities: category, budget, presentation or quantity. Keep the comparison unit consistent when viewing another product. Do not attribute a difference solely to breed percentage if feeding category changes as well.

Finish with format and delivery

Multiply the price by the packs you actually want and check the basket and delivery amount before purchasing. A price per 100 g does not by itself include those elements.
