Melon and figs offer two familiar starting points for ham with fruit. You can also try a pear you enjoy raw. Rather than mixing a large platter immediately, prepare small portions and decide which combination to repeat.
Compare the same ham with two fruits separately. Serve small amounts, keep juices away from slices and assemble at serving time. Preference depends on your taste and the particular fruit.
Choose two fruits, not a whole fruit table
Try melon and pear, or figs and melon. Choose fruit you already enjoy and prepare only a few pieces for the first test. Ripeness, cut size and the chosen ham change the experience; there is no need to name one fruit the winner for every occasion.
Try three steps with the same ham
Taste a small ham portion alone. Then taste fruit alone, followed by a bite of both. Repeat with the second fruit using the same ham. Ask whether you prefer the combination, whether juice dominates or whether you like them served separately. A sentence explaining your preference is more useful than calling everything perfect.

Wash fruit under running water before cutting, including fruit you will peel; use no soap. Work with clean hands and utensils. Drain visible liquid and refrigerate cut fruit if not serving promptly. Follow ham storage directions too. Keep pieces manageable and juices separate so slices are not soaked.

Turn the test into two specific appetisers
For figs, follow our fresh figs with ham. For melon, melon and ham bites or short skewers gives quantities and assembly. Compare ham in the ham and shoulder pack collection. Cards show catalogue ham, not a fruit basket included with the order.
