Hard can describe different situations: a thick slice that is difficult to chew, a part of the piece that is difficult to cut or a change after storage. Before looking for a remedy, identify what happened. Texture alone does not confirm that food is safe.
First check the label and storage history. If everything is correct and you simply want another use for a firm texture, adapt the cut or choose a recipe; cooking does not recover deteriorated food.
Separate a cutting difficulty from a change in the product
Does the problem occur while moving the knife or while eating the slice? If the piece moves, the edge is not working well or you reach a hard area, stop: do not increase force or use the flexible blade as a lever. Check the holder and tools. A thick slice can also be awkward without explaining the condition of the whole piece. Do not try to establish safety by tasting another portion; first check the instructions and how it has been stored.
Check before trying to use it
Identify whether you have a bone-in piece, a boneless centre or an opened pack. Check the date, stated conditions and when you started it. If its history is unknown, the packaging has lost integrity or there are changes you cannot interpret, document the condition and seek advice before consuming. Do not use water, oil, spices or heat to hide them. The absence of an unusual smell does not by itself prove that the product is safe either.

With ham that has been correctly stored, is suitable for consumption and remains within its instructions, you can choose a more manageable presentation. Separate slices without stacking them and divide an oversized portion with a suitable clean utensil. For cooking, weigh what you have and follow a recipe designed for pieces of ham, such as a filling or vegetables. Adjust the cut and add the ham at the specified stage. Do not promise to soften any piece or turn an example into a recovery treatment.

The selection follows the Jamones Paco Heredia catalogue. Editorial photographs illustrate formats; check the collection for current products and their details.
Avoid leaving the next purchase unused
Relate format to your actual eating occasions. For a started piece, expose only the necessary area and protect the cut according to its instructions; for a pack, retain the information after opening and remove only the planned amount. There is no common number of days for every format. If you prefer to organise several meals, compare the declared grams of current sliced products. This guide does not announce repair, boning or slicing of pieces as shop services.
