Avocado toast with jamón: two textures from the same ingredients

The same ingredients make either a mashed avocado base or neat slices. The difference is in the assembly. Add the jamón at the end and do not return it to the toaster.

At a glance

4 toasts · about 20 minutes · 2 avocados, 4 bread slices, 80 g jamón and 10 ml lemon juice.

Ingredients and timing for 4 starters

Preparation: about 15 minutes. Toasting: about 5 minutes. Approximate total: 20 minutes for four starter toasts.

  • 4 slices of bread
  • 2 medium ripe avocados
  • 80 g sliced cured ham
  • 10 ml lemon juice

Step-by-step method

  1. Wash your hands and prepare clean utensils. Rinse the avocado skin under running water and dry before opening; do not use soap on the fruit.
  2. Open the avocados on a stable board and scoop out the flesh, carefully separating it from the stone. For the mashed version, crush with a fork and mix in the lemon. For slices, cut the flesh and distribute the lemon over it.
  3. Toast the bread alone, following your appliance instructions, until it has the texture you like. Let the strongest heat dissipate.
  4. Share the avocado between the four slices. Divide the ham into four portions and arrange in loose folds on each toast. Assemble just before eating and serve without reheating.

Adapt the recipe to your kitchen

Mashed or sliced? Mashed avocado makes an even layer; slices keep more defined pieces. No blender or two separate mixtures needed: choose one finish or use one on each half of the bread.

Lemon does not soften or ripen a very hard avocado. Choose fruit ready to eat. To prepare ahead, store the ham according to its pack and leave toasting and assembly until the end. Bread is a separate ingredient: check its allergens and those of all other products.
